Egyptian mythology is full of fascinating gods and goddesses, each with their own unique personalities, powers, and stories. But there's a group of gods that often gets overlooked: the Dark gods.

🖤 Who are the Dark gods? 🖤

The Dark gods, also known as the 'hidden gods' or the 'invisible gods', are a group of deities in Egyptian mythology that are associated with darkness, death, and the afterlife. They are often depicted with animal heads, and their names and attributes are shrouded in mystery.

Some of the most well-known Dark gods include Anubis, the jackal-headed god of mummification and the afterlife; Set, the god of chaos and storms; and Nephthys, the goddess of death and mourning.

👁️‍🗨️ Why are they important? 👁️‍🗨️

While the Dark gods may seem scary and intimidating, they were an important part of Egyptian mythology and religion. The ancient Egyptians believed that the Dark gods played a crucial role in the afterlife, guiding and protecting the souls of the deceased on their journey to the underworld.

As the famous Egyptologist, Bob Brier, once said, "The Dark gods of Egypt represented the forces of nature and the inevitable march of time. They were not evil, but simply misunderstood."

🦴 Fun facts about the Dark gods 🦴

Anubis was believed to have weighed the hearts of the deceased against the feather of Ma'at, to determine if they were worthy of entering the afterlife.

Set was often depicted with the head of a donkey or a hippopotamus, and was believed to have killed his brother, Osiris.

Nephthys was the sister of Isis, and was often depicted as a mourning woman with outstretched wings.

🔍 Exploring other mythologies 🔍

While the Dark gods of Egypt may be fascinating, there are countless other mythologies and pantheons from cultures all around the world that are just as intriguing. From the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece, to the kami of Japan, to the orishas of the Yoruba religion, there is no shortage of incredible stories and legends to discover.

So why not take a dive into the rich and varied world of mythology? Who knows what hidden gems you might find.

As the writer and mythologist, Joseph Campbell, once said, "Myths are public dreams, dreams are private myths. We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." 🌟
